As some of you may know, about 6-9 months ago my dad gave my boys a little finch named Fred. My boys LOVED to watch Fred jump all around his cage, and laughed every time Fred squawked. All in all, Fred was and is well loved. Ezra has especially taken an interest in Fred. He thinks it is SO funny to reach in Fred's cage and watch Fred fly around like a mad man (or bird as the case may be). A couple of days ago Ezra was reaching into Fred's cage as usual but reached for the bottom where all the gross poopy stuff is. He grabbed something that I assumed was bird dropping so I immediately tried to take it away. When Ezra reached out his pudgy little hand he had a very small egg in it. I wondered which toy that came from and then wondered if it was real. I held the egg up to the light and sure enough I saw a yolk inside. Two days later I went downstairs to prepare breakfast and low-and-behold, another egg lay at the bottom of the cage. So Fred is not really a Fred! We were so surprised. Gabe had the idea to name her "Mrs. Bird" or "Mrs. Egglayer, because she is a Mrs. and she lays eggs." As if I wouldn't have figured that one out! Oh Gabe! Anyways, I was thinking of renaming her Matilda but Aaron insists that we have to name her the feminine version of Fred. Anyone know what that might be? Anyone want to tell Aaron that, that is not necessary and we should go ahead and name her Matilda? I think it is cute and we could call her Tilly for short.
